Creating an image for booting from the PXE  server

You can create a WinPE 2.0 or later image file for booting from the PXE server during provisioning from a local data store.

To create the image for a PXE boot

In provisioning from a local data store, installation files are located on local media. Usually, a local boot image is used. However, you can create a WinPE 2.0 or later image file for booting the target machine from the PXE server (PXE boot) instead of a local boot. To create the image, do either of the following:

  1. To create the boot image file using the Image Creation wizard, follow the steps Creating-WinPE-2-0-and-later-images-using-the-Image-Creation-wizard. Specify settings as you normally would to create a WinPE image. In addition, specify the following settings:
    • On the Toolkit Select panel, for Image type, select PXE Image.
    • On the Configuration Details panel, select Copy to WinPE image.
  2. To create the boot image file using the BMC Server Automation script, follow the steps in Creating-WinPE-2-0-and-later-image-files-using-the-BMC-Server-Automation-script.
In the input file for the script:
    • Specify all required parameters and other parameters as you normally would to create a WinPE image.
    • Specify this parameter: CopyToISO=N
    • Specify this parameter: CreatePXEFlag=Y
