Patch Downloader utility for Red Hat Enterprise Linux

You can download metadata and payload using the Patch Downloader utility for Red Hat Enterprise Linux supplied by BMC or you can use a download utility that you have on hand.

The Patch Downloader utility uses configuration and filter information to download metadata and payload from the Red Hat Network website.

Starting with BMC Server Automation version 8.2, you can download metadata and payloads for both the supported base channels and their child channels using the the Patch Downloader utility. For more information about what constitutes base channels and child channels, see here

The Linux server that houses the patch repository must have the createrepo and pythonurl-grabber packages pre-installed before download begins. The required version for the packages is as follows:

Package

Tested version

createrepo

0.4.6

pythonurl-grabber

2.9.6

Notes

  • You do not require createrepo and pythonurl-grabber if you are using a Microsoft Windows server to run the Patch Downloader utility.
  • The versions above were used for testing and validation. Later versions of these packages are known to work but have not been officially qualified with the product.

The downloader is either redhat_downloader.bat (for running on Microsoft Windows) or redhat_downloader.sh (for running on Linux). To install, extract the file and place it in a directory on the server.

The following topics explain how to build the configuration files and how to use the downloader utility for Red Hat Enterprise Linux:
