Copying, cutting, and pasting groups, folders, and system objects

When using the Folders view, you can copy and paste or cut and paste folders, groups, smart groups, and most types of system objects.

By default, when you copy and paste an object, the newly created object has the same permissions as the object that you copied. However, BMC Server Automation provides a mechanism for changing this default behavior, as described in Default-permissions-for-cutting-and-pasting.

Tip

Rather than cut and paste groups and folders, you can drag and drop them.
In addition to this procedure, copy and paste actions are available from the global Edit menu and the standard keystroke combinations (Ctrl+V, Ctrl+C).

To cut, copy, and paste

  1. Open any folder and navigate to the folder, group, or system object you want to copy and paste or cut and paste. Select the folder, group, or system object.
  2. Right-click and select Copy or Cut from the pop-up menu.
  3. Right-click a folder or group and select Paste from the pop-up menu.
The folder, group, or system object appears in its new location. You cannot paste into a smart group.
When you paste, a dialog box tells you that a move or a copy is occurring in the background.

Note

When you copy and paste a job, all scheduling information is removed from the pasted job.
