Provision Job usability enhancements
BMC Server Automation version 8.2 provides the following enhancements to the Provision Job:
- Redundant copies of system packages are eliminated.
- A Provision Job is now linked to, or associated with, a system package. This change provides the following advantages:
- A change in a system package no longer requires you to create a new Provision Job to implement the change.
- A change in a system package is directly reflected in the Jobs that reference that system package.
- Device-specific information in a Provision Job takes precedence over device-specific information in a system package.
- The Provision Job wizard interface is simplified.
- The interface is consolidated, reducing the number of panels from 13 to 9. The non-device-specific information is obtained directly from the system package.
- Lists and choices are categorized by vendor.
- The flow of the wizard panels is now consistent with other BMC Server Automation Jobs.
- RBAC management is easier now that redundant copies of system packages no longer occur.
- Provision Job creation is now independent of target device selection. You have the flexibility to create a Provision Job without having to select the targets. Target device selection is associated with Provision Job execution.
- The RSCD agent installer for Microsoft Windows is now a .msi file. The .msi file uses default values for unattended installations. You can override the default values when provisioning version 8.2 RSCD agents on Windows platforms by using new fields in the Provision Job, on the Post-Install Configuration panel.
- A Provision Job failure is immediately flagged and sent to the Application Server and the details logged are improved. These enhancements should reduce your time to resolve problems.
- A new createProvisionJob BLCLI command lets you create a Provision Job that you execute later, similar to other BMC Server Automation Jobs.
