Patch management updates for SP2

The following topics describe the updates for patch management in version 8.2 SP2.

On Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, before deploying patches in version 8.2 SP2, you must enable the Windows Update Service. With version 8.2 SP2, you also need to enable the Remote Registry service in addition to the Admin Share Access for the user performing the scan.

New platform support for patching

BMC Server Automation version 8.2 SP2 adds patching support for Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) version 6.

Support for Update mode on AIX

On AIX platforms, you could report the Patching Analysis results for only the installed filesets, by using the installp command with the -B option.

Starting with version 8.2 SP2, Patching Analysis on AIX supports both the install mode and the update mode.  The usage of the update mode on AIX is similar to that of the update mode on Linux.

Updating catalogs after migration to 8.2 SP2

Before using catalogs in version 8.2 SP2, you must update the catalogs after migration to version 8.2 SP2 by performing the actions described in:

Version 8.2 SP1 introduced some changes to catalogs on Microsoft Windows and IBM AIX operating systems. After you migrate catalogs on Windows or AIX to version 8.2 SP2, if those catalogs were created on before version 8.2 SP1, you must update the catalogs before executing Patching, Remediation, or Deploy Jobs that contain them.

For Windows catalogs, after you upgrade the Agent on the helper server of the Windows Catalog to version 8.2 SP2, BMC recommends that you execute the Update Server Properties Job on the helper server.

To update Windows or AIX catalogs in Online mode, execute the corresponding Catalog Update Jobs as follows:
