Creating your own VGP
This topic provides instructions for creating your own Virtual Guest Package (VGP).
To create your own VGP
- Create an XML file that contains configuration information for the new virtual machine (VM).
This file is based on the schema shown in Virtual-Guest-Package-schema. Before using the schema, familiarize yourself with the concepts described in Using the schemas - Backward compatibility and validation.
Here are some sample VGP files for different environments. Following each sample, there is a section containing information about various settings:- Sample VGP XML file - VMware vCenter (bare metal)
- Sample VGP XML file - VMware vCenter (based on template or on another VM)
- Sample VGP XML file - IBM AIX (LPAR)
- Sample VGP XML file - IBM AIX (LPAR with shared memory)
- Sample VGP XML file - IBM AIX (LPAR with storage)
- Sample VGP XML file - IBM AIX (VIO)
- Sample VGP XML file - Solaris Zones
- Sample VGP XML file - Red Hat KVM
- Sample VGP XML file - Citrix XenServer
- Sample VGP XML file - RHEV (Bare Metal)
- Sample VGP XML file - RHEV (Template Based)
- Sample VGP XML file - SCVMM Hyper-V (Bare Metal)
- Sample VGP XML file - SCVMM Hyper-V (Template Based)
After you have created the VGP XML file, run the createVirtualGuestPackage command to create the VGP.
For example:Virtualization createVirtualGuestPackage "//host/c/inputFiles/vgp-vmware.xml"
1This command returns the ID of the newly created VGP (in this case 1).
Store this ID, because you will need it later to retrieve the contents of the VGP.
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
