Setting up an RHEV Manager environment
To set up an RHEV Manager environment, you must:
- Install a Red Hat Linux agent on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux server where the RHEV Manager is installed
- Add that server to the BMC Server Automation Console and update the properties and perform configuration tasks that complete the setup.
This topic includes the following sections:
- To install the Linux agent on the RHEV Manager
- To add the Linux server to BMC Server Automation
- To distribute the RHEV Manager configuration object
- To set connection and virtualization properties
To install the Linux agent on the RHEV Manager
- Install the RSCD agent on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux server where the RHEV Manager is installed, as described in Installing-only-the-RSCD-agent-Linux-and-UNIX. Be sure to install the RSCD agent that is specifically designated for use with a Linux server.
- Open the /etc/rsc/exports file and add an entry with the application server IP address or host name and a read/write mapping. This restricts access to accept connections only from the listed application server. For example:
192.168.0.1 rw - Open the /etc/rsc/users.local and add an entry for a role and user that should be mapped to the root account. For example:
BLAdmins:BLAdmin rw,map=root - Save and close the files.
For more information about the exports and users.local files please see Setting-up-configuration-files.
To add the Linux server to BMC Server Automation
From within the BMC Server Automation Console, add the Red Hat Enterprise Linux server as a managed server to a server group (right-click a server group and select Add Server ).
To distribute the RHEV Manager configuration object
Distribute the RHEV Manager configuration object on the RHEV manager server by completing the following steps:
- Navigate to the Jobs folder.
- Right-click a job group and select New > Administration Task > Distribute Configuration Objects.
- Provide a name for the Job and click Next.
- Expand the Global Configuration Objects list, select the RHEV Manager object, and add it to the Selected Configuration Objects section. Click Next.
- On the Targets panel, select the RHEV manager server.
- Click Finish, and execute the job. For details, see Distributing-configuration-objects.
To set connection and virtualization properties
- In the BMC Server Automation Console, select Configuration > Property Dictionary View.
- Browse the Built-in Property Classes > Connection class.
- Click the Instances tab and set the connection details to the RHEV Manager host. Create a Connection instance with the name Connection_<serverName>, where <serverName> is the name of the Linux server. This new instance contains the connection details to the RHEV Manager host.
Set the following properties for the newly added instance:
- Save this instance.
- Browse the Built-in Property Classes > Virtualization class.
For each RHEV Manager object you add, create a corresponding Virtualization instance. - Ensure that the VIRTUAL_ENTITY_CONNECTION property in the Virtualization instance points to the previously created Connection instance, and that the VIRTUAL_ENTITY_TYPE is set to RHEV Manager.
- Save this instance.
- Select the Linux server from the Servers folder and set the Virtualization property, as follows:
- In the Properties window, expand the Extended properties and select the Virtualization property.
- Click the Browse icon (
)to display the Select value for complex type dialog box. - Select the Virtualization instance you created previously, as shown below:
- Click OK.
You can now use the BMC Server Automation Console to Live Browse the RHEV Manager server and access the RHEV Manager node.
