Generating a user information file

Use this procedure to generate a user information file, which caches your BMC Server Automation user ID and password. This file can be used as a keytab file for authentication, and is especially useful when running unattended automation scripts that make use of Network Shell proxy services or make calls to the BLCLI.

  1. From <installDirectory>/bin, run the command bl_gen_blcli_user_info.
The utility prompts you to create a file name.
  2. Name the file user_info.dat.
  3. When prompted, enter your BMC Server Automation user name (such as BLAdmin) and password.
  4. Move the file created in step 2 to one of the locations shown below:
    • (Windows) <userHomeDirectory>\Application Data\BladeLogic \user\user_info.dat
    • (UNIX) <userHomeDirectory>/.bladelogic/.user/user_info.dat
  5. Make sure that only you have permission to access the directory where you have stored the user_info.dat file.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
