Starting the Cognos service
You can use any one of the following methods to start the Cognos service:
- On Windows, select Start > Programs > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Right-click cognos10 and select Start.
- Use the IBM Cognos configuration tool to start the Cognos service on UNIX-like computers.
For details, see the procedure below and the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Installation and Configuration Guide. - Use the blreports start command to start all services at once on Windows or UNIX-like computers.
For details about using the blreports start command, see Managing-all-services. Use the Server Administrative tool in the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation user interface (your role must have permission to use this tool).

To start the Cognos service on UNIX-like computers by using the Cognos configuration tool
- Ensure that the cogstartup.xml file (located in the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/portal/configuration directory) is modified for your environment.
For information about modifying this file for your environment, see the "Manually change default configuration settings" section in the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Installation and Configuration Guide. - Navigate to the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/portal/bin64 directory.
Type the following command:
./cogconfig.sh -sThis command starts the Cognos service in silent mode.
