Restarting the Cognos service

When configuring settings on the reports server such as the timeout interval, you usually have to restart the Cognos service for the settings to take effect.

You can use any one of the following methods to restart the Cognos service:

  • On Microsoft Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Right-click cognos10 and select Restart.
  • Use the blreports restart command to restart all services at once on Windows or UNIX-like computers.

  • Use the IBM Cognos configuration tool to start the Cognos service on UNIX-like computers.

  • Use the Server Administrative tool in the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation user interface (your role must have permission to use this tool).

To restart the Cognos service on UNIX-like computers by using the Cognos configuration tool

  1. Ensure that the cogstartup.xml file (located in the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/portal/configuration directory) is modified for your environment.
    For information about modifying this file for your environment, see the "Manually change default configuration settings" section in the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Installation and Configuration Guide.
  2. Navigate to the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/portal/bin64 directory.

  3. Type the following commands:

    ./cogconfig.sh -stop
    ./cogconfig.sh -s

    This command restarts the Cognos service in silent mode.
