Understanding reports, report packages, and reporting objects
This topic describes the types of reports, report packages, and reporting objects that are available in BMC Decision Support for Server Automation.
Report types
BMC Decision Support for Server Automation provides the following types of reports:
Built-in reports: These reports are delivered with BMC Decision Support for Server Automation. Built-in reports are read-only (unless you have purchased and enabled Report Studio and your role has access to it). In addition to viewing these reports, you can create report views, and export the report results to a file. If you have Report Studio, you can export built-in report definitions, edit the definitions, and make other changes. For information about tasks that you can perform with built-in reports, see Managing-reports-using-IBM-Cognos.
- Ad hoc reports (also called custom reports): These reports are model-based reports in which the data, presentation type (chart or table), filter criteria, data items to display, and data grouping and sorting are all customizable. For information about creating ad hoc reports, see Creating-ad-hoc-reports.
Report packages
BMC Decision Support for Server Automation includes report packages that combine the data model and a set of built-in reports that are created by using that model. Report packages include folders for results data, objects, and other elements that are exposed when you select a package.
When you open Query Studio or Report Studio, the left panel displays the following report packages:
- BladeLogic: Contains built-in reports that are arranged in a hierarchical tree structure. For more information, see BladeLogic report package.
BladeLogic KPI: Includes data elements used in the built-in Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports. You can use these data elements to create custom KPI reports.

BladeLogic report package
The BladeLogic report package, which is available from Query Studio or Report Studio, displays folders for results data, objects, and other elements. The folders are organized in a way that is specific to each domain group. For information about launching Query Studio or Report Studio, see Creating-reports-with-Query-Studio or Creating-reports-with-Report-Studio.
The BladeLogic report package folders are called domain groups (or domains). Each domain group contains individual query subjects, which contain query items (data items) that you can add to your report to define the report columns. The following example shows the contents of the Job Activity domain. For information about domains, see Understanding-data-domains-in-the-BladeLogic-report-package.
Reporting objects
You use the following types of reporting objects to create reports: The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.
