8.5.00 enhancements

This topic contains information about enhancements in version 8.5.00 of the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation product.

Installation enhancements

BMC Decision Support for Server Automation includes the following installation enhancements:

Enhancement

Description

Separate installation and configuration

With this release, the configuration process is independent of the installation process. The installation process only deploys the product binaries. You can configure the product later by using the

BMC Decision Support for Server Automation

 Console.

Schema and linked server creation by installer

You no longer need to create Oracle and SQL Server schemas and linked servers. The configuration process creates them for you.

Separate bundling of Cognos installer

With this release, the Cognos installer is bundled separately from the product installer. You must download the Cognos installer separately from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

When you upgrade to a service pack in the future, you do not need to download and install Cognos again. You will save bandwidth and time.

New console for configuring the product

With this release, you can configure the product by using the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console. You can configure databases and the email server by using the console either immediately after the installation or later by launching the console. After you configure the product once, you can also modify details of these databases and the email server later. For more information about using the console, see Configuring the product using the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console.

A new user ID, BDSAdmin, has been created in BMC Server Automation. You use BDSAdmin credentials to log on to the console for the first time to configure the product or to reconfigure your databases through the console if they are corrupted.

Archive and restore utility

With this release, you can archive and restore data by using the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console. You can set the retention period for each domain individually. You can restore data for individual domains for a specific time period. In addition, you can run the archival activity from BMC Server Automation Console. For more information, see Archiving-and-restoring-data.

Enhanced reporting

With this release, reporting have been enhanced with the following new features.
