Obtaining ETL error details in Metadata Navigator

If an error occurs while running the extract, transform, and load (ETL) process, you can view error details in Metadata Navigator. You can use the log files to help resolve the error yourself or send the log files to BMC Customer Support for assistance.

To investigate an ETL command error in Metadata Navigator

  1. Log on to

    , as described in Accessing-the-Metadata-Navigator.
  2. Navigate to the scenario step that indicates an error and read the error message (if there is no error message, continue to step 4).
  3. Perform the appropriate action:
    • If the cause of the error is clear to you, resolve the error, and run the run_etl command again.
    • If the cause of the error is not clear to you, copy the error text into a document, locate the log files for that scenario run in the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/logs/etl/timeStamp directory and send them with the document to BMC Customer Support for assistance.
  4. Navigate to the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/logs/etl/timeStamp directory and locate the log file with the most recent time stamp, site_siteID_timeStamp_run_etl.log.
  5. Open the log file and look for the error and a suggested recovery step.
Often log files contain suggested recovery steps, such as to create a site with a site ID or to delete the LCK file in the etl/bin directory.
  6. Perform the appropriate action:
    • If the cause of the error or suggested recovery step is clear to you, resolve the error, and run the run_etl command again.
    • If the cause of the error or suggested recovery step is not clear to you, send all log files for that scenario run to BMC Customer Support for assistance.
