Error while connecting to the Application Server using SSH

On UNIX, if you install Inventory templates or other scripts included in the Inventory-Templates.zip file, the /dev/null file gets deleted. As a result, you cannot connect to the BMC Server Automation Application Server through SSH and one of the following error messages appears:

  • Server unexpectedly closed network connection
  • Network error: Software caused connection abort

Workaround: If you installed Inventory templates or scripts and your /dev/null file is deleted, run the following command on the BMC Server Automation Application Server to generate the file:

 nexec <ApplicationServerName> /bin/bash -c "rm -Rf /dev/null;mknod /dev/null -m 666 c 1 3"

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
