Recommendations for the Oracle processes parameter

This topic provides the recommendations for setting the Oracle processes parameter.

Reports data warehouse recommendations

BMC recommends that the processes parameter for the Oracle database used as the reports data warehouse be set to 400 (instead of the default) because of the following reason.

The ETL execution spawns multiple Oracle processes and makes multiple connections to the reports warehouse database. The actual number of processes that are needed is based on the number of domains (such as Inventory and Audit) for which ETL is being run in parallel.

In addition, the IBM Cognos reports server makes connections to the reports warehouse database and this increases the process load on the reports database server.

recommends that the processes parameter for the portal content store instance should use the default setting (for default setting details, see the Oracle documentation).
