Updates included in Service Pack 3

BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation version 8.2 SP3 provides the updates described in the following sections:

New version for OpenSSL

BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation now uses OpenSSL version1.0.1 for UNIX.

Better sizing estimates for database space requirements

With this release, BMC enables you to size your database space requirements for BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation better, by including computations about tables that take up a lot of database space.

Migrating custom reports after an upgrade

BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation now provides a report migration utility that updates the reports created with the version 8.1 reporting model to the version 8.2 reporting model. The version 8.2 reporting model has significant changes compared to the version 8.1 reporting model, in terms of query subjects, structure, organization, and definitions.

Earlier, the reports created using the version 8.1 model would not work after the upgrade to version 8.2. Now, The report migration utility updates the report definitions for the earlier reports so that they can also work with the version 8.2 model.

The report migration utility scans each report, obtains its definition, and performs the following actions:

  • Replaces the query item definitions according to new model.
  • Removes any query item or filter that no longer exists in the version 8.2 reporting model.
  • Saves the changes in the report.
Warning

Note

Each replacement in the report is performed on the basis of a mapping file that contains a list of key-values.

Downloading the report migration utility files

You can download the BDSSA82-SP3-Report_Migration_Utility.zip file that contains the scripts and other files for the report migration utility from the EPD site. For instructions about downloading a file from the EPD site, see Obtaining the installation files.

Configuring and using the report migration utility

  1. Copy the BDSSA82-SP3-Report_Migration_Utility.zip to the BDSSAInstallationDirectory folder.
  2. From a command prompt or UNIX terminal, navigate to the BDSSAInstallationDirectory folder.
  3. Run the following command to extract the zip file to a new ReportMigration82_Utility directory, under the BDSSAInstallationDirectory folder.

    unzip ReportMigration82_Utility.zip
  4. From the same terminal, navigate to the ReportMigration82_Utility folder.
  5. Run the following command:

    nsh ReportMigration82.nsh
  6. The utility now prompts with the following options:
    1. Specify a name of a report, folder or a package that which you wish to migrate. If you specify a folder or a package, all the reports under the folder are migrated.
    2. Migrate the entire content store. This option migrates all the reports present in the IBM Cognos content store.

The utility creates a backup of the reports, prior to migrating it. Based on the option that you specify in Step 6, the utility creates a corresponding backup zip file in the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/portal/deployment folder. The utility creates two CSV files in the ReportMigration82_Utility folder:

  • The CustomerAnalysisReports.csv file contains information pertaining to all the query items and filters present in the report before the migration was executed. This file also indicates the columns that are removed during the migration activity.
  • The migrationResult.csv file contains details about all reports with at least one column removed post the migration activity.
Warning

Note

The log file for the utility is available at BDSSAInstallationDirectory/logs/migration.log. The log file contains detailed information for every report and a migration summary.
