Restarting the reports server

When configuring settings on the reports server such as the timeout interval, you usually have to restart the reports server for the settings to take effect.

You can use any one of the following methods to restart the reports server:

To restart the reports server by using administrative tools in the Windows control panel

  1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools and then double-click Services.
  3. Right-click cognos8 and select Restart.

To restart the reports server on UNIX-like computers by using the Cognos configuration tool

  1. Ensure that the cogstartup.xml file (located in the BDSSAInstallationDirectory/portal/configuration directory) is modified for your environment.
For information about modifying this file for your environment, see the "Manually Change Default Configuration Settings on UNIX and Linux Computers" section in the IBM Cognos Installation and Configuration Guide.
  2. Navigate to the appropriate directory for your installation type:
    • 32-bit installations: BDSSAInstallationDirectory/Portal/bin
    • 64-bit installations: BDSSAInstallationDirectory/Portal/bin64
  3. Type the following command:

    ./cogconfig.sh -s

This command starts all Cognos services at once in silent mode. For complete details about using the Cognos configuration tool and running Cognos services in silent mode, see the "Starting and Stopping Cognos 8 in Silent Mode on UNIX and Linux Computers" section in the IBM Cognos Installation and Configuration Guide.
