Enabling Change-Initiated Job
This topic provides information to a change manager about the prerequisites and basic configurations to enable this capability.
The Change-Initiated-Job (CIJ) enables a change manager to execute simple and routine jobs, such as file deployment jobs without the involvement of operations team.
Before you begin
Ensure the following prerequisites are met before enabling this capability:
- The configured BMC Server Automation user has permission to:
- Access all devices on which the the job needs to run.
- Access all CIs from the CMDB.
Automation jobs are defined and BMC Change Automation integration is enabled in BMC Server Automation console. For information about enabling the connection details, see Enabling Change Automation for BMC Server Automation jobs in BMC Server Automation 8.9 online documentation.
To enable Change-Initiated Job
Use information provided in the following table for successful implementation of the Operator-Initiated Change.
Stage | Description |
---|---|
1.Select and configure job types to create task templates | In BMC Server Automation, select the Enabled For ITSM? check box while configuring a job type in the Job Configuration For Change Automation dialog box. For detailed step-by-step instructions and information about supported job types, see Configuring job types. |
2.Publish job details | From the General panel, under Change Automation Options, select Change Task Template Enabled. A corresponding task template containing job details is created in BMC Remedy ITSM. If you are integrating with an external automation system, you need to use the web service TMS_TaskTemplateServiceInterface and provide inputs for all mandatory fields. |
3.Utilize task templates to create a change record | Associate the task template with the change record created to run the job. This is a one-time configuration. However, you need to update the task template if the job definition is updated in future. As you are associating a task template during the creation of change record, ensure that the fields have following values in Select Template dialog box:
For a detailed step-by-step procedure to associate a task template with change record, seeRelating predefined task group or task templates to a change request in BMC Remedy Change Management 9.1 online documentation. |
