Performing actions on VMs


When conducting a live browse of a VMware vCenter server, you can take action on the virtual machines that the vCenter hosts. The type of actions available vary depending on the VM's operating system.

To perform actions on a VM

  1. Live browse a vCenter server, as described in Searching-server-inventory-and-taking-actions-on-search-results.
  2. Expand the VMware vCenter Server node.
  3. Expand the Virtual Machines node.
  4. Select a VM.

  5. At right, from Available Actions, select an action.
    The following actions are possible:

    Stop
    Shutdown
    Reboot
    Suspend
    Hard Reset
    Snapshot 
     

    When you select an action, a dialog box asks for confirmation. For some actions, the dialog box requests additional information.

  6.  Click OK.
