Deploy results - Viewing and using

A Deploy operation can run a Software Deploy Job or a BLPackage Deploy Job created in BMC Server Automation. Those types of jobs can perform an unattended deployment to target servers or components. The deployment can consist of software packages or BLPackages.

Results of a Deploy operation provide:

  • A pie chart showing the percentage of targets where the operation succeeded, failed, or generated warnings.
  • Icons showing the status of each phase of the entire Deploy operation: Simulate, Stage, Commit, and Rollback. The icons show that a phase has failed if the operation fails on even one target. (Note that the Deploy Results tab can show you the results of each phase for individual targets.)
  • Statistics about the operation's start and end time, duration, and status. Note that a job is considered a success if it completes successfully, even if its actions fail on some or all targets.
  • A series of tabs providing information and functionality relating to:

If the Deploy operation is part of a remediation operation, the Deploy results present a drop-down list at the top of the page. Use it to select the parent Batch operation or other remediation runs that are part of the same Batch operation.

Deploy results

The Deploy Results tab shows the results of a Deploy operation on its targets. Select a target and the list at right shows all messages generated when the Deploy operation ran on that target. An icon next to each item in the Targets list shows if the Deploy operation failed, succeeded, or succeeded with warnings.

To search for targets or messages

In the Search Targets box, enter a text string of any length. The Targets list shows all targets with names that include that text string. If you leave the box blank, the page shows all targets. Search for messages in a similar way using the Search Messages box.

To undo a target

In the Targets list, find the target where you want to undo a deployment. In that row, click ActionsIcon.gif and then select Undo Target. A dialog box asks you to confirm the undo. Any packages deployed to the target during the Deploy operation are removed and the target is restored to its previous state.

To undo all targets

Select the Actions icon ActionsIcon.gif at the top of the Targets list, and then select Undo All Targets. A dialog box asks you to confirm the undo. When the undo is complete, another dialog box prompts you to reload the page with updated information. The undo removes any packages deployed to the targets during the Deploy operation and restores the targets to their previous state.

To filter targets or messages

Take any of the following steps:

  • Click one of the wedges representing a deploy status in the pie chart at top and results are automatically filtered for that status. For example, if you click Success in the pie chart, the Targets list shows only targets where the Deploy operation succeeded. To reset the display, select All Results in the status list at the top of the Targets list.
  • At the top of the Targets list, select a phase of the Deploy operation. The Targets list shows only targets where the Deploy operation did not proceed past the selected phase. For example, if you select Stage, the list shows only targets where the Deploy operation did not proceed past the Stage phase.
  • At the top of the Targets list, select a deploy status, such as Successful or Failure. The Targets list shows only targets matching that status. You can use this filtering while you also filter by phase.
  • At the top of the messages list, select a type of message, such as Information or Error. The messages list shows only messages matching that type.
