Accessing the portal
Use this procedure to log on to the portal.
Unlike BMC Server Automation, when you log on to the portal, you do not have to select a role. Instead, if you have one or more roles defined in BMC Server Automation, you are granted the combined authorizations for those roles. The only time you have to specify a role while you are using the portal is when you create an operation and you belong to more than one role in BMC Server Automation.
BladeLogic Portal 2.2.00.001 introduces support for PKI authentication. To enable PKI authentication, additional configuration is necessary. When that configuration is complete, the user interactions for accessing the portal are different than for other forms of authentication, as described in To access the portal using PKI authentication. PKI is only supported for a BMC Server Automation site; it is not supported for BMC Network Automation.
This topic includes the following sections:
To access the portal
- Using any supported browser, access this URL:
http://server_name:portal_port
or
https://server_name:portal_port
server_name is the fully qualified name of the server hosting BladeLogic Portal.
portal_port is the port used to communicate with BladeLogic Portal. The default value for an HTTP port is 8080. The default for HTTPS is 8443. In the login dialog box, for Login and Password, enter a BMC Server Automation user name and password.
- Click Advanced Options if you have not signed in before or you need to access a different site or change your authentication mechanism. Otherwise, proceed to step 6.
Additional options appear. - For Site, select the site to which you want to connect. A site is an installation of a BMC Server Automation Application Server or BMC Network Automation.
- When accessing BMC Server Automation only: For Authentication Method, select one of the following approaches to authentication:
Secure Remote Password—Users authenticate against a registry of authorized users maintained in the central BMC Server Automation Application Server's database. User information is derived from the RBAC utility in the BMC Server Automation. For more details, see Secure remote password authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.
Domain Authentication—Users authenticate by providing a name, domain, and password. For more details, see Domain authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.
RSA SecurID—Users authenticate by providing a user name and passcode. The passcode consists of a PIN and the current token code, which is obtained from an RSA SecurID token. For more details, see RSA SecurID authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.
LDAP Authentication—Users authenticate by providing an LDAP distinguished name and password. For more details, see Lightweight Directory Access Protocol authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation. - Click Sign In.
