Note

If an operation is based on a job that was previously executed in BMC Server Automation, the home page shows results for that operation even if the operation has never been executed from the portal.

Executing an operation

  1. In the operations list, find the row for the operation you want to run and click Execute  ExecuteIcon.gif.
    The Execute Operations window opens.
  2. Perform one of the following steps:
    • To execute the job immediately, click Execute.
    • To modify the list of targets where the job executes, use the Execute Operations window to add or delete targets. When you are done modifying the list, click Execute

Click here for more information on modifying the list of targets.

Modifying an existing operation

In the operations list, roll your cursor over the operation you want to modify and click Edit. The wizard for defining operations opens. It allows you to modify most options for the operation, although you cannot change the operation's content.

You cannot modify a VMware operation.

Deleting an operation

In the operations list, roll your cursor over the operation you want to delete and click Delete. A message asks you to confirm the deletion.

Displaying detailed information about the most recent run

In the operations list, find the operation for which you want information and click View Results. A results page opens. It provides a range of information and lets you take various actions, depending on the type of operation. For more information, see Viewing-and-using-results-of-operations.

You cannot view job results for a VMware operation.

Designating favorite operations

In the operations list, click the star next to an operation to indicate that it is a favorite. The star turns yellow Favorite.gif. You can filter the operations that are displayed by showing only favorites.

Click a yellow star to remove the favorite status.

Filtering the operations displayed

Using filters, you can choose the types of operations displayed on the home page. You can also choose to display only the operations you have defined or only favorite operations. For example, you might choose to display only Compliance and Deploy Operations that you have defined.

To display operations by type

Select the type of operation to display. For example, if you select Batch, the operations list shows only Batch operations.

If you do not select any type of operations, the operations list displays all types of operations.

To display only your own operations

Select My Operations. The operations list displays only operations you have defined. By default, the Portal displays only your own operations.

To display only favorite operations

Select My Favorites. The operations list displays only operations you have marked as favorites.

To clear all filtering options

Click clear all.

Finding specific operations

Click in the Search Operations text box and enter any number of characters. Click the Search icon Search.gif. The operations list shows all operations with names that include the text string you entered. You can click Search.gif without entering any text to show all operations.

Viewing the log

In the operations list, click View Log to display a list of messages generated when an operation runs. You can filter the list by type of message, such as Error or Warning. You can also search for messages by entering text in the Search Messages box and then clicking the Search icon Search.gif.

Operation run graphs

In the operations runs graph:

  • Blue vertical bars indicate how many targets are available for evaluation during each run. Numbers on the right vertical axis show the number of targets evaluated.
  • The blue line (only present for Compliance operations) indicates the percentage of rules that are satisfied on all targets that are evaluated. For example, if there are 100 rules set for the servers that are evaluated and 45 of those rules are satisfied, the percentage of evaluated compliance is 45%.
  • The green line provides different types of information depending on the type of operation:

    Operation type

    Meaning

    Compliance,
    Patching

Percentage of compliant targets. For example, if you evaluate five targets and only one is fully compliant, the evaluated target compliance is 20%.

    Deploy,
    NSH Script

Percentage of targets where the operation executed successfully. For example, if you run an operation on five targets and it succeeds on four, the passed target rate is 80%.

    Batch

Percentage of targets where first-level child jobs ran successfully. For example, if a Batch operation includes child jobs that run on four targets and the operation runs successfully on three, the percentage is 75%. If a Batch job includes another Batch job, its child jobs are considered second-level child jobs. This page does not include their results.
