Step 1. Perform an initial scan

BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping

If you have not already conducted an initial scan of your server estate, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping user interface. Detailed instructions
  2. Perform an initial scan of the estate without credentials. Detailed instructions
  3. Examine the scan results for the presence of hosts in the selected IP address range. Detailed instructions
  4. Depending on the predominant class of operating systems, do one of the following:

Step 2. Add the Atrium Discovery custom configuration object

BMC BladeLogic Server Automation

To enable retrieval of server discovery data, BMC BladeLogic Server Automation must be integrated with  BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping through the use of a special Atrium Discovery custom configuration object. You must add this custom configuration object to your Configuration Object Dictionary in BMC BladeLogic Server Automation.

For details, see "Adding the Atrium Discovery configuration object" in the BMC BladeLogic Server Configuration Discovery Getting Started Guide.

Step 3. Configure parameters for the Atrium Discovery custom configuration object

BMC BladeLogic Server Automation

The Atrium Discovery custom configuration object requires configuration so it can connect to BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping.

For details, see "Configuring the connection to the Atrium system" in the BMC BladeLogic Server Configuration Discovery Getting Started Guide.

Step 4. Distribute the Atrium Discovery custom configuration object to all servers where you want to discover and manage third-party software applications.

BMC BladeLogic Server Automation

Using a Distribute Configuration Objects Job, distribute the Atrium Discovery custom configuration object to servers where you want to discover software applications.

For details, see "Distributing the Atrium Discovery custom configuration object to the managed servers" in the BMC BladeLogic Server Configuration Discovery Getting Started Guide.

Where to go next

Once you have installed and configured the required products, you can begin Assessing-and-remediating-server-software-compliance.
