User scenario for operator-initiated changes for continuous compliance for networks
This topic describes a scenario in which the changes requested by a BMC Network Automation operator are automatically recorded, tracked, and approved.
The operator-initiated change use case is part of the larger Continuous Compliance for Networks use case.
Overview
The following scenario presents a walkthrough of the steps involved in tracking changes initiated by a BMC Network Automation operator. It begins when the network engineer creates a job to take a snapshot of a network device. The user does not assign the Change ID and Task ID as these fields will automatically be assigned once a Remedy Network Change is opened.
Scenario
- The network engineer submits the job and selects a job approval type (that is, Minor) that requires BMC Remedy approvals.
- BMC Atrium Orchestrator creates a Network Change request in Remedy Change Management.
You can see the corresponding Remedy Change ID (for example, CRQ000000000106) in the Job list, as shown in the following figure: The Network Change is waiting for approval by the BMC Remedy Service Desk.
The Change is associated with a Network Task, as viewed from the Task tab. The BMC Remedy user can select the Launch button to view the Job Details report to aid in approving the change request. In addition, the BMC Remedy user can see which network Configuration Items (CIs) will be changed on the Task Relationship tab.- BMC Atrium Orchestrator detects that approval has been granted and notifies BMC Network Automation to schedule the change request.
BMC Network Automation completes the job and notifies BMC Atrium Orchestrator to update the Remedy Change Task status to Closed.
- The BMC Remedy user can verify the actual changes made by selecting the Launch button on the Network Task, as shown in the following figure:
- The Job Details report is selected to view the changes.
- More change details can be displayed by clicking on the Job ID, Change ID, or Task ID to display the Job Summary Report page, as shown in the following figure:
- The user can see that the router’s Running and Startup configurations were changed. The user selects the Change Details for the router’s Running configuration to verify that a data snapshot was taken, as shown in the following figure:
