Installing TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform using the wizard


Where you are in the Installation process


To install TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform using the wizard

  1. Log in to the host computer where you want to install TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform.
  2. (Windows) On the host computer, ensure that you have Administrator privileges.
  3. Download the product files on the host computer.
  4. On the host computer, extract the downloaded files to a location outside the following directories to avoid any file sharing conflicts:
    • (Windows) C:\Program Files
    • (Linux) /tmp
  5. Go to the SmartReporting/Disk1 directory of the extracted folder and do the following:
    • (Windows) Run the setup.exe file.
    • (Linux) Run the setup.bin file.
  6. Select a language and click OK.
  7. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  8. Read the licence agreement, agree to the terms, and click Next.
  9. Browse and select the directory where you want to install the product and click Next.

    Note: Do not add special characters

    Ensure that there are no special characters in the installation path.

  10. Browse and select the directory where Java is installed. TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform supports the following Java versions:

    • Oracle JRE or JDK version 1.8.0_181 or a later update of version 1.8.0
    • Open JRE or JDK version 11

    Additionally, TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform also supports the Java versions that the components support.

  11. Enter the following information, and click Next.
    • Server Port. Enter the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform port number. Default is 8443.
    • Server Max Heap Size (in MB). Default is 12884.
    • Server Min Heap Size (in MB). Default is 2048.
    • Reporting Admin User. The default is tsradmin. You cannot change this value.
    • Reporting Admin Password. Enter a password for the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform admin user.
    • Confirm Admin Password. Enter the same password again.
  12. Select one of the following databases and click Next:
    • Microsoft SQL
    • Oracle
    • PostgreSQL
  13. If you are using the Microsoft SQL database, do the following:
    1. Select an authentication type for the SQL Server:
    2. For the repository database, select one of the following options:
      • Create a database

        Important: Do not use this option for Windows authentication

        If you are using the Windows Authentication option, do not use the Create a database option. Use the Use an existing database option, and ensure that the user has the db_owner permission.

        BMC recommends you to use this option for other authentication methods. For this option, you must know the database administrator credentials.

      • Use an existing database
        The database must not contain any tables.
        For the Windows Authentication option, ensure that you set the Windows authenticated user as the owner of the database.
    3. For the database user, select one of the following options and click Next:
      • Create a database user
        BMC recommends you to use this option. For this option, you must know the database administrator credentials.
      • Use an existing database user
        If you have selected the Use an existing database option, the user must have the db_owner permission on the database.
    4. Enter the following database details and click Next.
      • Database details that include the host name, port number, and database name
      • Database user credentials
      • Database administrator credentials. These details are required if you selected to create a new database or database user.
  14. If you are using the Oracle database, do the following:

    Enter the following database details and click Next.

    • Database details that include the host name, port number, and the Oracle SID or service name. Use either the Oracle SID or the Oracle Service Name radio button.
    • Database user credentials

    Important: Install TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform and TrueSight Capacity Optimization schemas on the same instance

    If you plan to use TrueSight Capacity Optimization with Kerberos authentication, ensure that you install the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform and TrueSight Capacity Optimization schemas on the same instance.

  15. If you are using the PostgreSQL database, do the following:
    1. For the repository database, select one of the following options:
      • Create a new database
        BMC recommends you to use this option. For this option, you must know the database administrator credentials.
      • Use an existing database
        For this option, ensure that you use a database that does not contain any tables.
    2. For the database user, select one of the following options and click Next:
      • Create a database user
        BMC recommends you to use this option. For this option, you must know the database administrator credentials.
      • Use an existing database user
        The existing user must have the following permissions:
        • LOGIN
        • INHERIT
    3. Enter the following database details and click Next.
      • Database details that include the host name, port number, and database name
      • Database user credentials
      • Database administrator credentials. These details are required if you selected to create a new database or database user.
  16. Review the installation details and click Install. Wait for the installation process to complete.
    You can see the Installation Summary page with the following items:
    • Link to the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform login page
    • Button to view the TrueSightSmartReporting_Install_log.txt file.
      All log files are available in the (Windows) %TEMP% or (Linux) /tmp directory.
  17. Apply the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform 20.02.00.001 hotfix.

    Note: Mandatory step

    It is mandatory to apply this hotfix on version 20.02.

    Do the following:
    1. Navigate to the  FTP location for this hotfix.

    2. Download and unzip the TrueSightSmartReporting_HotFix_20.02.00.001.zip file.
    3. Stop the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform service.
    4. Navigate to the <install_location>\appserver\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\lib directory and take a backup of the i4-mi.jar file.
    5. Replace the existing i4-mi.jar file with the file from the extracted.
    6. Start the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform service.
