Executing workflows

Operator Control Panel (OCP) application.

In versions earlier than 20.02, you could execute the workflows in two modes. You either run a workflow to completion, which executes the workflow without pausing at each activity. You could also run a workflow in a step mode, which enables you to troubleshoot the workflow by stepping over or into activities during the execution.

When you execute a workflow in a run-to-completion mode, the workflow begins immediately and executes until the end of the workflow, or until compensation occurs. The workflow pauses for your input where necessary, such as a text value you enter or input you select from the dialog. The results of the workflow execution appear after the workflow is complete. In a step mode, the OCP pauses at each activity and waits for your input. This input could be a text value you enter, input you select from the dialog, or a Step comment such as Step over, Step into, or Return. When you run a workflow in Step mode, you could switch to a run-to-completion mode at any point during the execution.

In version 20.02, you can only execute workflows in a run-to-completion mode.

To execute a workflow

  1. Log in to the OCP application, expand the module in the workflow explorer until you see the workflow that you want to run, and double-click the workflow name.
The workflow opens on the canvas.
  2. Click Execute.
The workflow runs immediately and runs till the end of the process, or if compensation occurs. If a workflow requires input, an appropriate dialog box appears asking for input. The workflow is paused until you provide the required information.
After the workflow is complete, the activity results appear below the workflow.
