Orchestration actions via TrueSight Server Automation
This topic describes the steps to be performed to enable the Orchestration actions for restarting services via TrueSight Server Automation.
Overview
Orchestration actions for restarting services that use TrueSight Server Automation NSH commands are available. This ensures that even if the credentials of the target server are unknown, the services are restarted successfully.
The following new actions are available in this patch:
- Start Apache Web Server via TSSA
- Start Microsoft Skype Service via TSSA
- Start Print Spooler via TSSA
- Start SNMP service via TSSA
In TrueSight Presentation Server 11.3.04, the actions and the relevant Orchestration policies are available out-of-the-box.
In TrueSight Presentation Server 11.3.03, only the actions are available out-of-the-box. To ensure that a relevant action for an event is available, you need to configure the event selection criteria. For this, you must manually create Orchestration policies in TrueSight Presentation Server.
Before you begin
Before using this enhancement, ensure that the following conditions are fulfilled:
- A compatible TrueSight Orchestration Platform is installed.
- A compatible TrueSight Server Automation version is installed.
- Event Orchestration runbook is installed and the required adapters and modules are configured and enabled.
See Installing-the-Event-Orchestration-runbook. - TrueSight Server Automation (formerly called BMC Server Automation) adapter and module are installed and configured.
See Configuring-the-BMC-Server-Automation-adapter.
Configuring content
In addition to the already configured runbook, ensure that you configure the following adapters and modules for this enhancement:
Content | Notes | See topic |
---|---|---|
TrueSight Server Automation adapter |
| |
REST adapter | Enable the adapter and its module on the grid. | |
BMC-SA-Event_Orchestration_Configuration module | Provide the configuration for the new services in the following module group: BMC-SA-Event_Orchestration_Configuration > BMC_TrueSight >EventTypes >ServiceDownViaTSSA
| |
BMC-SA-Event_Orchestration_ServiceDownViaTSSA | Enable the module on the grid. |
Creating Orchestration policies
To avoid analyzing events every time before running an Orchestration action, you can create an Orchestration policy and configure the event selection criteria. The event selection criteria determines the type of events on which an Orchestration action must be enabled.
For these actions, you must manually create Orchestration policies in TrueSight Presentation Server. When you create a new policy for any of these supported actions, ensure that you copy the relevant policy, rename it, and only select the desired Orchestration action.
For example, to configure event selection for Start Apache Web Server via TSSA action, copy the Apache Web Server Service Down policy, rename it, and from the Orchestration Action list, select Start Apache Web Server via TSSA. When an Apache Web Server down event is generated, you can choose between the Start Apache Web Server and Start Apache Web Server via TSSA Orchestration actions.
For details about creating policies, seeManaging Orchestration policies.
Where to go from here
Now that you have successfully added actions for restarting services using TrueSight Server Automation, you can initiate Orchestration action. For details, see Using Orchestration actions to enable triage and remediation of events.
