Microsoft Active Directory adapter

The Microsoft Active Directory adapter contains an actor adapter and an adapter module, which comprise workflow processes that perform the standard application actions available through the Active Directory Servers.

Note

For more information about the Microsoft Windows versions supported by the adapter, see Supported application versions for the application adapters.

This adapter must be enabled on a Windows-based system. The adapter invokes the Active Directory application Command Line Interface (CLI) for remote commands execution. The adapter provides operations that enable and ease out the tasks for the Active Directory administrator.

This adapter uses the embedded xCmd utility to execute commands on remote Windows-based hosts. The xCmd utility connects to the ADMIN$ share (a preexisting share used by the Windows operating system) and the IPC$ share on the remote host.

In versions earlier to 21.3, by default, this adapter establishes a remote connection for the local host and uses the xCmd utility to execute commands. For example, if the Active Directory server is installed on a host where a peer, such as LAP is installed and the adapter has been enabled on the peer, the xCmd utility is used. Starting from version 21.3, if you do not specify a target in both the adapter configuration and the adapter request, the commands are directly invoked on the local host without using the xCmd utility in such a case.
