Post-installation tasks for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager adapter

You can configure the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager in two ways:

  • Every time that a command is run, it prompts for the user name and password for the node.
  • The command is run with the saved user name and password.
    • In this particular case, as part of the standard installation procedure, you might have to provide the user name and password the first time that the command is executed. For subsequent runs, the saved user name and password are used. It is therefore recommended that after you set up the Tivoli Storage Manager client, you should run a particular command (for example, Query Session) once and provide the required user name and password (if prompted). This user name and password are saved for subsequent command runs.

The BMC Atrium Orchestrator application adapter for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager supports only the second approach, because user authentication is not available via prompts.

To set environment variables for the client

To set the environment variables for the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client:

  • DSM_CONFIG: The path to the options file that is used
    • For Microsoft Windows, the path should include the name of the file (for example, C:\Program Files\Tivoli\Tsm\baclient\dsm.opt)
    • For UNIX, provide the path that includes the directory where the options file is located (for example, /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin)
  • DSM_DIR: The path to the directory where all the executables are located
  • DSM_LOG: The path to the directory where the dsmerror.log file is located

The absolute directory path where the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client executables are located should be added to the PATH environment variable. For example, on Microsoft Windows the default path would be: C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient.
