Viewing the templates listing

TrueSight Network Automation is delivered with predefined templates that are listed on the Templates page. The Content Count column states the number of scripts in the template. Each script represents a unique device type and OS version. Through the Template Filter page, you can filter the list of templates based on various template attributes.

Viewing the list of templates

To view the list of templates, go to Network > Scripts > Templates. By default, templates are sorted by Name. To sort on a different column, click the column heading. You can view the template details by clicking its name.

You can perform the following operations on the templates list.

Description

Views

Display templates matching a favorite View. See About-lists-and-views and Managing-and-sharing-views.

Filter

Filter the template list based on selected criteria

Add

Add a new template to the database. See Adding-a-template.

Delete

Delete the selected template or templates. Each row of the table has a select box on the left for use with this function, and the box in the header row selects all templates.

When you confirm deletion of templates, the Template Delete Results window confirms whether or not the templates were deleted successfully. The Failed section shows the error code and error message for the failure if any of the selected templates could not be deleted. The Succeeded section confirms that the templates were deleted successfully. When you filter items in this window by a particular string, items that contain the string are also displayed along with the items having the exact string. If you use asterisk (*) in the search string, it is considered as an exact character to be searched for, not as a wildcard character.

Manage Rights

Manage template rights. See Managing-template-access-rights.

Refresh

Refresh the list with any recent updates

Use the Actions icons to edit, copy, or delete a template.

Important

You cannot delete a Template that is currently referenced by any other component (such as job, policy, or predefined job). You must clear these references manually before the template can be deleted.

Logged events associated with the deleted template are retained (until aged out) and remain viewable in the Events viewer. The same is true of jobs that used the deleted template; such completed jobs are retained until purged and their detailed results remain viewable.

Use the Show items per page drop-down list to change the number of templates available for deletion in a single operation.

Defining a filter for the templates listing

On the Network > Scripts > Templates page, do the following:

  1. Click the Filter menu option above the list of templates.
  2. Specify or select any of the following optional attributes:

    • The name of the template; wildcards supported
    • The content count of the number of scripts in a template
    • The vendor or device type or both for a script contained within the template
    • Contents of the template; wildcards supported
    • Container blueprint name (to find all templates used by that blueprint)

    Important

The filter criteria match the string values of the Name and Contents attributes. For example, filtering for Fire* finds all templates whose name begins with Fire.

  3. Click Save.
