Deleting devices
To delete previously defined devices from the inventory, you can choose between the following methods:
- To delete multiple devices at once, select the devices using the check box to the left of each device name, and click the Delete menu option above the list of devices. When you confirm deletion, the Device Delete Results window confirms whether or not the devices were deleted successfully. The Failed section shows the error code and error message for the failure if any of the selected devices could not be deleted. The Succeeded section confirms that the devices were deleted successfully. When you filter items in this window by a particular string, items that contain the string are also displayed along with the items having the exact string. If you use asterisk (*) in the search string, it is considered as an exact character to be searched for, not as a wildcard character.
- To delete a single device, click Delete
.
You cannot delete a device that is currently referenced by any other component (such as job, policy, rule set, or condition). You must clear these references manually before the device can be deleted. When a device is deleted, it is removed from any associated groups, and all associated configuration files are deleted. Logged events associated with the deleted device are retained (until aged out) and remain viewable in the Events viewer.
The same is true of jobs that ran on the deleted device. Such completed jobs are retained (until purged) and their detailed results remain viewable.
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
