Working in a Telnet or SSH session
After you complete the procedure for opening the Telnet or SSH session, as described in Opening-a-Telnet-or-SSH-session, the Telnet/SSH Session page opens. You can type commands and traverse menus to directly interact with the device.
In the Telnet/SSH Session page, you can type commands, copy text into the clipboard by using Ctrl + Insert, and paste text from the clipboard using Shift + Insert, like in any other terminal emulation program. Network Automation captures the session command/response interaction in the Job Details Transcript.
Click End Session to terminate the session. Network Automation takes a snapshot of the configuration for archiving (if changes were made) and displays a side-by-side comparison of the configuration before and after the session in the Job Summary.
Limitations
The Telnet/SSH Session interaction panel exhibits a few glitches which might interfere with your ability to interact with a device:
- While using the Edge web browser, pasting into the window pastes the text twice. You can still paste, but then use the backspace key to delete the extra text.
- Some VT100 escape sequences can cause the cursor to fail to appear at a prompt. (Some devices emit VT100 escape sequences even on seemingly plain command line interfaces.) You can still type commands, even if the cursor is invisible.
- Browsers grab Ctrl + T (new tab), Ctrl + N (new window), and Ctrl + W (close tab) keystrokes. You cannot use these keystrokes for command line editing.
To display the Job details transcript
On the Network > Actions > Jobs page, do the following:
- Click
on the row of the required Job.
The Jobs Details report is displayed:
- To display the Telnet/SSH transcript, scroll down on the Job Details page, and click the Succeeded link in the Status column.
- If you want to view side-by-side differences to the Running configuration (assuming changes were made), select the View Job Summary Report link.
