Changing the running configuration of a device using SNMP protocol

Before you begin

Ensure that the prerequisites are met before you use the external script action:

• The device is configured with SNMP v2 or v3.
• A valid, read-write community string is configured on the device.
• Only certain Cisco devices are supported. For the list of devices which are not supported, see Unsupported devices.
• The device must support the following Management Information Database (MIB): CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB.
• If the device is using a NAT address and if only NAT addresses are allowed through the firewall, in the external script action .xml file (Revert Device Configuration Via SNMPv2 / Revert Device Configuration Via SNMPv3), change the script argument from ${device.nic} to ${device.nat}.

To run the Revert Device Configuration Via SNMP action

1. On the Add Job page, select Add Actions > External Script Actions > Utility > Revert Device Configuration Via SNMP.

   Important

   To run an SNMP v2 action, you must configure the device with SNMP v2 and to run an SNMP v3 action, you must configure the device with SNMP v3.

2. Enter information in the following fields:

   The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline. Click on this message for details.
   This macro generates standalone content. As a consequence you need to make sure to use a syntax that separates your macro from the content before and after it so that it's on a line by itself. For example in XWiki Syntax 2.0+ this means having 2 newline characters (a.k.a line breaks) separating your macro from the content before and after it.
   

3. Click Save to add the action to the job.

Unsupported devices

• The Revert Device Configuration Via SNMP external script action is not supported on the following devices:
  • Cisco ACI
  • Cisco ACI-Tenant
  • Cisco ASA/PIX/FWSM
  • Cisco Catalyst 1900/2820
  • Cisco CatOS Switch
  • Any device which does not support the CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB MIB 
    To see the list of devices that support this MIB, see Supported devices.
• The Cisco Catalyst devices are not supported. However, in some cases, this external action might work on Cisco Catalyst devices running the IOS operating system.
