Resolving the out-of-box rules

The rules and rule sets that are shipped with TrueSight Network Automation include references to site-specific global and device substitution parameters. That is, site and device-specific values are plugged in dynamically.

To use these rules, you must define global substitution parameters and device dynamic fields which makes the rules resolvable (that is, tell TrueSight Network Automation where to obtain the value to plug into the rule).

If you try to use these rules without taking this step, you receive error messages about unresolved substitution parameters. If you do not intend to use the shipped rules, you do not need to define the referenced global substitution parameters or dynamic fields.

Defining global subsitution parameters for the out-of-box rules

This section describes the global substitution parameters referenced by the shipped rules. For each one, add a global substitution parameter as described in section Managing-global-substitution-parameters.

Make the parameter name match the name in the following table. Select a value for each that is applicable to your installation.

  1.  ACLs are only for IPv4 addresses in this product version. IPv6 ACLs are not supported, except as noted for specific parameters.

Defining device substitution parameters for the out-of-box rules

This section describes the device substitution parameters referenced by the shipped rules. For each one, add a dynamic field as described in section Managing-dynamic-fields.

Make the dynamic field name match the name in the following table. Some names have an embedded space.

Make each dynamic field apply to devices, and choose appropriate value types as suggested in the following table. You then need to edit each device to assign the value for the dynamic field that is appropriate to the particular device.

For some fields, you can choose an assignment mechanism of Configuration Profiled if the value can be extracted from the device's configuration. For example, if you have only a single loopback port per device, its number could be extracted from the configuration (instead of entering it manually in the device editor).
