Viewing a System Diagnostics report

The System Diagnostics report enables an administrator to retrieve diagnostics like memory usage, operating system information, configuration file settings, system parameters, component counts, and thread stack traces. BMC can request this report when servicing a technical support call.

To generate a System Diagnostics report

  1. Open the System Diagnostics Report wizard page by navigating to Reports > Support Reports > System Diagnostics.
  2. Select the types of diagnostics to include in the report. Best practice when generating a report to forward to BMC Customer Support is to check all "Show" options so that the resulting report contains as much information as possible.

  1. Click Refresh until the report is completed, or wait until you receive the notification email. If the report is aborted, the Progress column indicates so, to alert you that the report data is partial. You can view the partial report, but be aware it is partial. You should refine your selections (if you asked for too-large a report) or re-generate the report (if it was aborted due to a system shutdown) in order to obtain a complete report. Then delete the aborted report as soon as possible. For more information about the Report Activity page, see Viewing-report-activity.
  2. Click the System Diagnostics link in the Report column to display the report.

Verify the report is complete. If the report was aborted, the title and the Report Generation information in the footer inform you so, and the footer informs you about the user who aborted it. An aborted report will be missing one or more sections for the selected remote device agents.

You might notice red or yellow flags next to various utilization values. A yellow flag appears at 85% utilization; a red flag appears at 95% utilization. The presence of a flag indicates that your system is approaching a limit that could impact the performance or proper functioning of the system. High memory or CPU utilization might be transitory, so generate the report again at intervals to monitor if the usage goes back down. High disk utilization is not usually transitory. Monitor this parameter as well and perform the disk cleanup actions at the operating system level.

  3. (Optional) Perform one of the following tasks by using the menu options that are available on the System Diagnostics Report page:

    Note

When you export a System Diagnostics report to RTF format, occasionally, in paths, a foreign character is shown instead of a backslash ‘ \’.
