Working with sites

This topic provides instructions on adding, editing, or deleting sites in TrueSight Network Automation – Multi-Server Administration. It also provides instructions on pushing content to sites and searching for devices across sites.

Adding a site for TrueSight Network Automation version 20.02.01 or later

Before you begin

(Applicable only for versions 21.08 and later) Before you add an application server as a site, ensure that you have imported application server's certificate into Multi-Server Administration.

To add a site for TrueSight Network Automation version 20.02.01 or later

1. Log in to Multi-Server Administration with the msaadmin user credentials.
2. Click .
3. In Site URL, enter the URL for the Network Automation application server that you want to add as a site in the following format: 
   <tsnaApplicationServerHostName> | <IP Address>:<portNumber>.
4. Click Verify to ensure that you have entered the URL correctly. 
   Multi-Server Administration validates only the URL. It does not validate whether the Multi-Server Administration version is compatible with the application server version that you are adding as a site. 
5. Enter the site name and an optional description for the site. 

6. Click Submit.
   On the Manage Sites page, the following information appears about the added site: 

   Column	Description
   Site URL	Displays the URL of the application server that the msaadmin user added as a site. When you click this link, you are directed to the login page of the TrueSight Network Automation GUI for that application server.
   Site Name	Displays the name that the msaadmin user added.
   Description	Displays the description that the msaadmin user added.
   Status	Displays whether or not the site URL is valid indicated by the following values: Online: Indicates that the site URL is valid. Offline: Indicates either the site is down or not reachable.
   Actions	Displays the actions you can perform on a site.

Adding a site for TrueSight Network Automation version 20.02 or earlier

1. Log in to Multi-Server Administration with the msaadmin user credentials.
2. Click .
3. In Site URL, enter the URL for the Network Automation application server that you want to add as a site in the following format: 
   <tsnaApplicationServerHostName> | <IP Address>:<portNumber>.
4. Click Verify to ensure that you have entered the URL correctly. 
   Multi-Server Administration validates the URL and whether the Multi-Server Administration version is compatible with the application server version that you are adding as a site. If you have entered the URL correctly, the Site Name and Description fields are populated automatically. These fields are populated if they have been entered into the system parameter for that Network Automation application server on the Edit System Parameters page.
5. Confirm whether the Site Name field is populated. If not, enter a name for the site.

6. Enter an optional description for the site, and click Submit.

   On the Manage Sites page, the following information appears about the added site: 
   
   

   Column	Description
   Site URL	Displays the URL of the application server that the msaadmin user added as a site. When you click this link, you are directed to the login page of the TrueSight Network Automation GUI for that application server.
   Site Name	Displays the default name or the name that the msaadmin user added.
   Description	Displays the default description or the description that the msaadmin user added.
   Status	Displays whether or not the site is accessible or not to the logged on site user indicated by the following values: Online: Indicates that the site URL is valid and the site is accessible. Offline: Indicates that site is down or not reachable.

Editing a site

1. Log in to Multi-Server Administration with the msaadmin user credentials.
2. On the Manage Sites page, click Edit in the Actions column.
3. Optionally, modify the site name or description, and click Submit.

Deleting a site and the site certificate

1. Log in to Multi-Server Administration with the msaadmin user credentials.
2. On the Manage Sites page, click Delete in the Actions column.
3. Delete the site certificate.

   1. Log on to the computer where Multi-Server Administration is installed.
   2. Navigate to the MSA_HOME\java\lib\security\cacerts (Windows) or MSA_HOME/java/lib/security/cacerts (Linux) directory.

   3. Run the following command:

      • (Windows)
        keytool.exe -delete -alias <aliasName> -keystore "MSA_HOME\java\lib\security\cacerts"
      • (Linux) 
        keytool.exe -delete -alias <aliasName> -keystore MSA_HOME/java/lib/security/cacerts

      In the above command, <aliasName> indicates the alias name for the site certificate with which you imported the certificate.

   4. Restart the TrueSight Network Automation – Multi-Server Administration Web Server service.

Pushing content to sites

You can push the following type of content from one TrueSight Network Automation application server (also called source site) to multiple application servers (also called target sites) simultaneously using Multi Server Administration:

• Combo Groups
• Device Security Profiles
• Dynamic Fields
• Global Substitution Parameters
• Rules
• Rulesets
• Templates

To push content from one application server to others

1. Log on to Multi-Server Administration as a site user.

   Note

   This site user should exist on the TrueSight Network Automation application servers that are added as sites in Multi-Server Administration.

   If the admin user has added multiple sites and none of them have the same version as the Multi-Server Administration version, the site user cannot log on to Multi-Server Administration. At least one of the sites must be accessible and must have the same version as Multi-Server Administration.

   The Site Detail page shows the following details:

   Column	Description
   Site URL	Displays the URL of the application server that the msaadmin user added as a site. When you click this link, you are directed to the login page of the TrueSight Network Automation GUI for that application server.
   Site Name	Displays the default name or the name that the msaadmin user added.
   Description	Displays the default description or the description that the msaadmin user added.
   Status	Displays whether or not the site is accessible or not to the logged on site user indicated by the following values: Accessible: Indicates that the site user has the Login Using Web Services right to perform operations on the site and credentials of the site user match the user credentials on the corresponding application server. Offline: Indicates that site is down or not reachable. Unauthorized: Indicates that the site user does not have the Login Using Web Services right to perform operations on the site, credentials of the site user do not match the user credentials on the corresponding application server, or the site user does not exist on the application server. Incompatible: Indicates that the version of the application server that is added as a site is not the same as the Multi-Server Administration version.

2. From the Content Push menu, choose the type of content that you want to push.
3. From the Source Site list, select the site from which want to push the content.
   The content present in the source site is displayed. For example, if you have chosen Combo Groups from the Content Push menu, combo groups in the source site are displayed. You can click a combo group to see its details. 

4. Select the content that you want to push to the target sites, and click the Content Push button.

   Important

   If you use the Select All check box on a page to select all the items at the same time, items on all the pages are selected.

5. Select the target sites to which you want to push the content.
   You can also search for target sites.
6. Select the Overwrite existing option to overwrite if the content with the same name exists in the target site.
   If you do not select this option, the content with the same name is not copied into the target system.

7. Click Push.
   If the operation is successful, the Content Push Results page is displayed.

   

   Note

   Results of the push operation are not stored anywhere. If you close this page, you cannot retrieve the results again.

Searching for devices across sites

TrueSight Network Automation – Multi-Server Administration lets you search devices across multiple application servers (also called sites) with the following attributes:

• Name: You can search by the name of a device. 
• Address: You can search by host name, IP address or URL.
• Dynamic fields (not enabled by default): You can search by the name of a dynamic field.

You can use asterisk ( * ) as the wildcard characters to search for devices.

Enabling search by dynamic fields

By default, search by dynamic fields is not enabled in Multi-Server Administration. You need to configure the deviceSearchByDynamicField property in the global.properties file (located in the MSA_DATA (C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BCA-Networks-MSA\data directory) to enable this search. You can specify the names of those dynamic fields from the Network Automation instances with which you want to search for devices.

Also, if you want to display the dynamic field column in the device search results, you need to configure the displayDynamicFieldsInList property. Specify the names of the dynamic fields in this property that you want to display as columns in the device search results.

To search for a device

1. Log on to the Multi-Server Administration as a site user.

   Note

   This site user should exist on the TrueSight Network Automation sites that are added in Multi-Server Administration.

   If the admin user has added multiple sites and none of them have the same version as the Multi-Server Administration version, the site user cannot log on to Multi-Server Administration. At least one of the sites must be accessible and must have the same version as Multi-Server Administration.

2. Click Search.

3. From the first list, select or filter for the attributes with which you want to search for the devices.

   Note

   To search for a device with a device dynamic field, ensure that you have enabled the search with dynamic fields.

4. In the Device Search field, enter the values of those attributes, and click Search.
   Search results are displayed. When you click a site link, you are directed to the login page of the Network Automation application server GUI that you added as a site.
   
   Click a device link in the Device Name column to see the details of the device on the Device Details page.
   

Searching for a realm across sites

TrueSight Network Automation – Multi-Server Administration lets you search for a realm across multiple sites by the realm name.

To search for a realm

1. Log on to the Multi-Server Administration as a site user.

   Note

   This site user should exist on the TrueSight Network Automation sites that are added in Multi-Server Administration.

   If the admin user has added multiple sites and none of them have the same version as the Multi-Server Administration version, the site user cannot log on to Multi-Server Administration. At least one of the sites must be accessible and must have the same version as Multi-Server Administration.

2. From the Search menu, select Realm.
3. From the Realm Name list, select the realm you want to search.
   The search results display the sites in which the selected realm is present.
   
   When you click the realm link, its details such as fallback purge criteria and dynamic fields are displayed. When you click a site link, you are directed to the login page of the Network Automation application server GUI that you added as a site.
