Adding dynamic fields to the data warehouse

This topic provides instructions on configuring a dynamic field in TrueSight Network Automation so that it can be stored in the data warehouse.

By default, TrueSight Network Automation - Data Warehouse stores a particular set of attributes for the devices and rules that are available in Network Automation. However, you can store additional attributes for these devices and rules in custom fields by using the dynamic fields feature of Network Automation. For example, you can add device dynamic fields such as, Business Services, Location, and Serial Number as reporting attributes.

You can use display these custom fields as content in reports or use them to filter report content (for example, you can show compliance violations for a specific business service)

To know more about dynamic fields, see Managing dynamic fields.

Do the following:

  1. Log on to Network Automation as an administrator.
  2. Select Admin > System Admin > Dynamic Fields.
  3. Select the dynamic field type that you want to store in data warehouse, for example Device.
  4. Provide other field specifications, such as Name
  5. Select the Export to Warehouse option.

What next?

If you are using Smart Reporting - Platform, do one of the following depending upon the version of TrueSight Network Automation - Data Warehouse.

Using version Network Automation - Data Warehouse version 19.11.01 or later

All the dynamic fields available in the data warehouse are automatically added or updated in the TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform report views during the next ETL run. These fields are available for reporting after the ETL run.

Using version Network Automation - Data Warehouse version 19.11

If you add a dynamic field in Network Automation after adding TrueSight Network Automation - Data Warehouse as a component in Smart Reporting - Platform, run the add_dynamic_prop_tsk task whenever you want to use this field for reporting in Smart Reporting - Platform.
