Recreating traps to troubleshoot SNMP Event Adapter issues

A utility is supplied with the adapters which enables you to take traps recorded in mcxa.trace files and replay them back through the SNMP Adapter. This is useful when testing changes to the adapter to verify it is working as expected.

To recreate traps using the snmpbyte.pl

  1. Copy the trace file containing the traps to a new location.
    For example:  /tmp/mcxa.trace
  2. Run the snmpbyte.pl script against that copy of the trace file.
    For example: perl installationDirectory/pw/server\bin\snmpbyte.pl -i localhost -p 162 -v mcxa.trace

This locates each SNMP trap in the trace file and resend it to the local host system on port 162. Modify the host name and port number as required.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
