Upgrading Central Monitoring Administration best practices
The following are some key points regarding Central Monitoring Administration upgrade:
- When a BMC ProactiveNet Server that includes Central Monitoring Administration is upgraded, Central Monitoring Administration is also upgraded.
- Policies that were created in Central Monitoring Administration 9.0 and are upgraded apply to agents for the portion of the policies that are applicable to the agent versions.
- The BMC ProactiveNet 9.6 repository is available only for BMC ProactiveNet 9.6. Do not attempt to import the BMC ProactiveNet 9.6 repository into a 9.0 BMC ProactiveNet Server. This is because the 9.6 repository contains PATROL Agents and KMs that are compatible only with 9.5 PATROL Agents in all respects.
- Technically, you can update the repository in BMC ProactiveNet 9.0 and install the latest versions of the PATROL Agent and KMs. However, BMC does not recommend this. Also note the following:
- You cannot use the existing policies (which are created in 9.0) to apply to 9.5 PATROL Agents and KMs.
- You cannot create policies for the BMC ProactiveNet 9.5 PATROL Agents and KMs in 9.0 Central Monitoring Administration.
- There are issues using a 9.6 repository with 9.0 that are documented in knowledge article KA408417. Also review the following links:
- Managing the repository (BMC ProactiveNet 9.0 documentation)
- Troubleshooting Central Monitoring Administration (BMC ProactiveNet 9.0 documentation)
- Managing-the-repository (BMC ProactiveNet 9.6 documentation)
- Troubleshooting-Central-Monitoring-Administration (BMC ProactiveNet 9.6 documentation)
It is a best practice to always use the latest repository that is designed for the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management solution version in use.
