Run Now + TrueLog diagnostics

To obtain additional performance data for the synthetic transaction associated with a BMC TM ART monitor in BMC ProactiveNet, you can invoke Run Now + TrueLog Diagnostics. Run Now + TrueLog executes the Run Now command in BMC TM ART Central for a selected monitor, and generates a TrueLog file for the transaction. You are then provided with a URL for launching BMC TM ART Central and directly accessing the Execution Log that contains data for the specific synthetic transaction over the past 24 hours.

By using this feature, you can generate TrueLog files intelligently and can avoid overloading the BMC TM ART Central database with the generation of too many TrueLog files. Instead of configuring monitors in BMC TM ART with the Generate TrueLog option set to Always, it is recommended that you set this option to generate a TrueLog on Error conditions for availability or accuracy. You can use the Run Now + TrueLog Diagnostics feature in the BMC TM ART Adapter to invoke the generation of a TrueLog when a monitor exhibits poor performance. You can do this in the following ways:

  • Manually trigger TrueLog diagnostics for a specific monitor through the Grid view or the Event view in BMC ProactiveNet.
  • Set up a rule to automatically trigger TrueLog diagnostics in response to an event, running the monitor on a specific location and generating the TrueLog file. It is recommended to configure automatic diagnostics if periodic problems occur at random times and you need additional information to provide to Application Support/Development to identify the root cause. However if the application is unstable and generating frequent events or the cause is already well understood, it is best to avoid the extra overhead imparted by multiple extra runs of the monitor plus transporting and storing the frequently large .xlg files.

For more information about invoking the Run Now + TrueLog Diagnostics feature in any of the ways described above, see Run Now + TrueLog diagnostics option.
