Configuring multiple BMC ProactiveNet Child Servers to connect to the same Oracle database
The procedure to install multiple BMC ProactiveNet Child Servers and connect them to use the same Oracle database is the same as that documented at Installing-the-BMC-ProactiveNet-Server-on-Microsoft-Windows-with-Oracle-as-database or Installing-the-BMC-ProactiveNet-Server-on-Linux-or-Solaris-with-Oracle-as-database depending on your operating system.
However, you need to meet the following guidelines to ensure that the multiple child servers you install connect to the same instance of the Oracle database. The guidelines vary depending on whether your Oracle setup is standalone Oracle or Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC).
Guidelines for a standalone Oracle setup
If you are using a standalone Oracle setup, in the Configure Database page, ensure that you specify:
- The same Oracle System ID (SID) in the Database SID field for all the BMC ProactiveNet Servers that you install. For example, if the value of your SID is "ora", ensure that you set "ora" when installing BMC ProactiveNet Child Server 1, BMC ProactiveNet Child Server 2, and BMC ProactiveNet Child Server 3.
- A unique user name in the Username field for each of the BMC ProactiveNet Servers that you install.
Guidelines for an Oracle RAC setup
If you are using an Oracle RAC setup, in the Configure Database page, ensure that you specify:
- The same service name of the Oracle server in the Service Name field for all the BMC ProactiveNet Servers that you install. For example, if your service name is "ser", ensure that you set "ser" when installing BMC ProactiveNet Child Server 1, BMC ProactiveNet Child Server 2, and BMC ProactiveNet Child Server 3.
- The RAC Scan host name and port details.
- A unique user name in the Username field for each of the BMC ProactiveNet Servers that you install.
