Applying licenses

Warning

Notes

  • Applying or updating the license restarts JServer process and forces all active user sessions on BMC ProactiveNet Server to log off.
  • You must have root privileges to apply the license.
  • You need to apply the license only to your BMC ProactiveNet Server installations. The license is not required on your Integration Service installations.

When you purchased the product, you should have received the following license files in a .zip file from your BMC Software representative:

  • proactivenet.lic
  • proactivenet.sign

To apply the license on Microsoft Windows systems

  1. Unzip the license files.
  2. Copy the license files to the installationDirectory\pw\licenses directory (for example, C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ProactiveNet\pw\licenses ).
  3. From the system icon tray, right-click the BMC ProactiveNet icon pnet_sys_tray_icon.gif, and select pw commands.
  4. In the BMC ProactiveNet Pw Commands window, on the command line, enter the following command:

    pw lic update
  5. Enter y to restart JServer.
The BMC ProactiveNet license is updated.

To apply the license on Linux or Solaris systems

  1. In binary mode, copy the .zip file to the computer where you have installed BMC ProactiveNet Server and into the /usr/pw/licenses directory.
  2. Unzip the file.
  3. To load the license data, run the following command:

    pw license update
  4. Enter y to restart JServer.

If the license update is successful, an empty command prompt is displayed. If error messages are displayed, see Licensing-issues.

Error
Warning

After you have loaded the license, moving or changing the license files can cause a number of errors to occur. When BMC ProactiveNet is installed, a hidden .pbk file is created. If the licence directory is removed and then re-created so that the .pbk no longer exists, the .pbk file must be re-added for BMC ProactiveNet licensing to function properly. This file can be captured from a backup of the installation (if a backup exists) or from another computer where BMC ProactiveNet is installed. If error messages occur, see Licensing-issues.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
