Changing the host name of the computer that hosts the BMC ProactiveNet Server
After you install BMC ProactiveNet components, there might be circumstances where you need to change the host name of the computer on which the BMC ProactiveNet Server is installed.
You might need to change the host name for some of the following reasons:
- You need to move the BMC ProactiveNet Server to a different computer due to a hardware failure, or you need to run the BMC ProactiveNet Server on a computer with more capacity.
- You are upgrading BMC ProactiveNet in phases, and you might want to copy BMC ProactiveNet to a new server and then upgrade it on the new server while you continue to run it on the existing server.
- You configure disaster recovery after installation of the BMC ProactiveNet Server with two servers in the same domain and you need to set the host alias on the secondary server.
To change the host name
- On the computer that hosts the BMC ProactiveNet Server, stop the BMC ProactiveNet Server process.
- Open a command line and run one of the following commands, depending on what you want to change:
pw system change hostname <newHostName> - Restart the BMC ProactiveNet Server process.
The configuration files are updated with the new host name that you specified.
