Editing, hiding, deleting, and finding configuration items

Editing configuration items

You can change properties (attributes) of a CI by using the Edit Component Properties dialog box.

If the CI is already being edited, a warning dialog box is displayed. Though you are not locked-out of editing the CI, it is recommended that you wait until the edit is complete before proceeding.

To modify the properties of configuration items

Perform the following steps to modify the properties of configuration items:

  1. Right-click the CI and select Edit from the context menu. The Edit Component Properties dialog box is displayed.
  2. Make the appropriate changes. For more information about the Edit Component Properties dialog box, see To specify attributes for configuration items.
  3. Click OK.

Hiding configuration items

You can hide a CI so that it is not visible in the current active view. BMC Impact Model Designer does not delete a hidden CI that has been published to a cell. You can retrieve the hidden CI by using the Find command.

To hide a configuration item

Right-click the CI that you want to hide and select Remove From View.

The selected CI is removed from the active view but is still visible in other views in which it has been saved. If CI is part of a service model, it remains in the service model.

Deleting configuration items

When you delete a CI in a view the following details are observed:

  • Components in the BMC.ASSET (in the BMC Atrium CMDB) that are marked as deleted (MarkAsDeleted) are not visible in BMC Impact Model Designer.
  • Components in your sandbox that are marked as deleted appear in BMC Impact Model Designer with an "X" icon.
  • Components that are new in the sandbox (that have no copy in BMC.ASSET yet) are physically deleted from the sandbox.
Warning

Note

If you want only to remove a CI from your view without deleting it permanently, use the Remove From View command as described in Hiding configuration items.

The deleted CIs are removed from the service model and are no longer available in the BMC Atrium CMDB.

Finding configuration items

You can search the BMC Atrium CMDB for existing CIs by using the Find command. Only CIs associated with classes that are designated for impact management in the BMC Atrium CMDB can be found in the BMC Impact Model Designer.

The following search procedure describes searches for CIs in the BMC.ASSET view.

You cannot search for relationships with the Find command, but when related CIs are found and placed in a view, their relationships are also placed in the view. To view the relationships, right-click the CI and select Expand Parents or Expand Children.

To  find existing configuration items

To find the existing configuration items, perform the following steps:

  1. Click the Find accordion on the left pane of BMC Impact Model Designer.
  2. In the Quick Search of all CIs area, you can search on the basis of the name or description of the CI. You can also enter a partial name by using the % sign as a wildcard before the partial name, after it, or both (for example, %Sales%Sales%, or %Sales ).
To display a list of all CIs, leave the text boxes blank and click Search

The result of the search is displayed next to the search query. To sort the values in any column, click the column heading. To change the order of the columns from left to right, drag the column headings.
