Creating a component installation package


  1. Click Add Add icon.gif.
  2. From the Installation Package Component screen, select the operating system and platform on which you want to install the package.
     The list of components in the Package Installation Repository that are supported on the specified operating system and platform is displayed.
  3. From the list of Available Components select one or more components. For each component from the Version list, select the version of the component that you want to include in the package. You can either select a specific version or you can select latest, which automatically updates the package with the latest versions of the components when new versions of those components are added to the Package Installation Repository. 

    Note

    For release 9.0 of BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management, only the latest version of the component is fully compatible, and can fully utilize the additional functionality provided by this release.

  4. Click the Add arrow to move the component(s) to the list of Selected Components.
  5. Create the relevant installation package according to the following steps: 

    Installation package with PATROL Agent
    1. Click Next.
    2. From the Specify Installation Directory screen, click Next to accept the default path or enter a valid path and click Next.
    3. In the Provide the System Root (or root privileged via sudo) Account Properties screen, enter the user ID and password of the root account.
    4. Click Next.
    5. From the Provide the PATROL 3.x Product Directory screen, click Next to accept the default values. If you have not accepted the default values in the Specify Component Directory screen, then carefully read the Important Information section and follow the instructions. Click Next.
    6. From the Provide the PATROL Default Account Properties screen, enter the login name and password to the default PATROL account. Click Next.
    7. From the Select Level of Security screen, select the appropriate security options. For detailed explanations of the security options, see BMC PATROL Security User Guide on PDFs. Click Next.
    8. From the Provide Information for the PATROL Agent screen, enter a port number and select to enable the PATROL Agent manually or automatically after installing the component package. 

      Note

      If you have already installed PATROL Agent on this server, then you must continue using the same port number.

      Click Next.

    9. From the BMC ProactiveNet Integration Configurations screen, do the following (these can be added after configuration):
      • Enter one or more comma separated values for the INTEGRATIONSERVICES variable according to the format Protocol:IntegrationServiceHostname:PortNumber, example:tcp:aust-pun-pat123:3183.
         The BMC Integration Service enables data transfer between the PATROL Agent and BMC ProactiveNet.
      • Enter one or more comma separated Central Monitoring Administration tags in the format
        TagName:Description. If the description contains a space, enter the description in double quotes ("). For example, TagName1:”UNIX Policy”, TagName2:Linux.
        Central Monitoring Administration tags enable a policy to be assigned to a PATROL Agent. For details, see Configuring general settings.
        Click Next.
    10. From the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Cell Configurations screen, you enable automatic registration of the PATROL Agent with an BMC Impact Manager during installation. You can accept the default values or do the following (these can be added after configuration):
      • Enter a value for the BMC Event Manager shared key enabling registration to the BMC Event Manager
      • Enter a unique value for the primary variable
      • (Optional) Enter a unique value for the secondary ImpactManager variable
         Click Next.
    11. From the RTSERVERS Variable Properties screen, do one of the following:
      • If you have an RT server configured, enter one or more comma separated values for the RTSERVERS variable in the format protocol:hostname:port, example tcp:aust-pun-rts234:2059.
      • If you do not have an RT server configured, delete the entry in the RTSERVERS Variable field.
         Click Next.
    12. In the Configure Perform Agent and Data Collector for UNIX screen, click Next to accept the default properties or enter the valid values.
    13. From the Configure Ports for BMC Performance Assurance, click Next to accept the default port numbers or override the port numbers for Service Daemon, Agent, and Console with new values.
    14. From the Configure Perform Data Collector for UNIX click Next to accept the default value or override the value with valid entry. (Valid entries are 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768)
    15. From the BMC Performance Assurance Migration Options screen, do the following:
      • Select whether you want to keep or uninstall the existing version of BMC Performance Assurance.
      • Select the File Migration check box if you selected to keep the existing version of BMC Performance Assurance and if you want to migrate all existing data files.
      • Select one of the following options:
        • Configure PATROL to use the new version of Perform Data Collector.
        • Configure PATROL to use the existing version of Perform Data Collector
        • Do not configure PATROL to use Perform Data Collector
      • Accept the default PATROL installation directory or override the value with a valid directory.
    16. In the Installation Package Details screen, verify that you have included the correct components, provide the following information:
      • Name:Enter a unique name for the installation package
      • (Optional) Description: Enter a description of the installation package. The description can be displayed on the Install Store view.
      • Format: Select a file compression format for the installation package
    17. Do one or both of the following actions:
      • To download the installation package immediately, click Download.
      • To save the package for future installation on the current host or other hosts, click Save Installation Package.
    18. Click Close.

    Note

    The appropriate PATROL Agent for the operating system and platform that you chose is included in the Selected Components list by default. If the PATROL Agent has already been previously installed on the targeted servers, then you do not have to include it in the installation package.

    Installation package without PATROL Agent

    If you have already installed the PATROL Agent, then you can install the component without the PATROL Agent.

    1. Use the Remove arrow to remove the PATROL Agent from the Selected Components list.
    2. Click Next.
    3. From the Specify Installation Directory screen, click Next to accept the default path or enter a valid path and click Next.
    4. From the Provide the PATROL 3.x Product Directory screen, click Next to accept the default values. If you have not accepted the default values in the Specify Component Directory screen, then carefully read the Important Information section and follow the instructions. Click Next.
    5. From the Information for adding the Selected Component(s) to Firewall Exception List screen, select to add the component to the Firewall exception list.
    6. in the Installation Package Details screen, verify that you have included the correct components, provide the following information:
      • Name:Enter a unique name for the installation package
      • (Optional) Description: Enter a description of the installation package. The description can be displayed on the Install Store view.
      • Format: Select a file compression format for the installation package
    7. Do one or both of the following actions:
      • To download the installation package immediately, click Download.
      • To save the package for future installation on the current host or other hosts, click Save Installation Package.
    8. Click Close.
