Step 4: Migrating existing data
After you upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Reporting 9.5.02 from version 8.6.x, 9.0, 9.0.20, or 9.0.22, to be able to use the old data to generate reports, you must migrate the old data. Migration process moves performance data and copies event and impact data from old tables to new tables, therefore retains the copies of event and impact data in the old tables.
Preparing to migrate
Perform the following steps before you migrate existing data:
- (BMC ProactiveNet Report Engine 8.6) The size of the BPPMR_IMPACT and BPPMR_EVENT tablespace should be same or higher than the USERS tablespace. If needed, add the extra data files.
- (BMC ProactiveNet Report Engine 9.0) The size of the BPPMR_IMPACT and BPPMR_EVENT tablespace should be same or higher than the BPPMR_CONFIG tablespace. If needed, add the extra data files.
- The necessary monitoring, for example BMC PATROL Knowledge Modules, BMC Performance Manager Portal, etc, should be added for monitoring the database tablespace size and operating system. During migration, you may have to add extra data file, if needed.
- Before migrating medium and large environment, add datafiles 90 GB size to the UNDO tablespace because migrating generates large transactions. You can clear these files after migration.
To migrate existing data
Perform the following steps to migrate existing data.
- Back up the source database.
- Copy Oracle folder from the following location from the Report Engine to database server.
BMC_PROACTIVENET_REPORTENGINE_HOME\ReportEngine\schema\developer\ - Ensure the ORACLE_SID variable is set to the Report Engine Oracle Database name.
- Edit either of the following files as per your operating system and change the values of the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID variables.
- (Windows) REDatabaseCli.bat
- (Solaris and Linux) REDatabaseCli.sh
- Stop Report Engine service. If you are using Multiple Report Engines, stop all Report Engine services before starting the Migration.
Run the following command: REDatabaseCli <RE DB USerName> <RE DB USerPassword> migrate_data_to_9.5
After you execute the command, the following messages are displayed on the screen.
Ensure that all report engines have been upgraded and BMC ProactiveNet Report Engine services are stopped.
Press any key to continue after confirming above.
Ensure the that all the BMC Proactivenet Report Engines are stopped before pressing the key.
First the migration completes the data for events and impact data. After successful completion, following
messages are displayed.

Data migration for event data successfully completed.
Please start the BMC ProactiveNet Report Engine service for all report engines if not done earlier.
Press any key to begin performance data migration
(BMC ProactiveNet Report Engine can be started at this point of time)
