Generating reports based on BMC Atrium CMDB attributes
You can retrieve BMC Atrium CMDB attributes and their values from the BMC ProactiveNet cell and store the data in the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Reporting database. You can then specify levels of hierarchy to select the devices based on their attributes, while generating reports for performance data. For more information, see Hierarchy. After you have specified the levels of hierarchy, you can filter the devices from any of the levels based on your requirement.
BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Reporting provides two ways of filtering devices to generate reports for performance data, based on their CMDB attributes. You can filter devices by using the cascading filtering or direct filtering. For more information, see Filtering devices.
Specifying levels of hierarchy
BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Reporting now allows to specify levels of hierarchy to select and filter devices based on their CMDB attributes, while generating reports. You can specify up to four levels of hierarchy, where Level 1 is the first filtering criteria and Level 4 is the last filtering criteria. After you have specified the levels of hierarchy, you can filter the devices from any of the levels based on your requirement. To specify the levels of hierarchy, configure the Reporting Engine by using the ConfigureHierarchy CLI command.
Filtering devices
You can use following methods to filter devices based on their CMDB attributes:
- CMDB hierarchy filtering
Cascading filtering allows you to filter devices based on the levels of hierarchy you have specified. The CMDB attributes specified in the levels hierarchy are the filtering criteria of devices. The prompt displays the levels of hierarchy you have specified. You can generate reports by selecting the level 1 hierarchy and then selecting the subsequent levels of hierarchy. - Direct filtering
Direct filtering allows you to filter devices by selecting a specific level of hierarchy. You can generate reports by selecting the CMDB attributes you have specified in a particular level of hierarchy.
You can also filter devices by selecting a CMDB attribute listed under CMDB Attributes branch, in the filtering prompt.
The following figure displays the CMDB attributes and the levels of hierarchy:
