Configuring BMC Network Automation to receive events from Entuity


When BMC Network Automation is configured to receive events from Entuity, those events are included in Change Summary reports. The other advantage of receiving events from Entuity into BMC Network Automation is that BMC Network Automation policies can be configured to correlate these events with recent changes. See Configuring-a-policy-in-BMC-Network-Automation-to-correlate-a-recent-NMS-event-with-a-configuration-change for an example of configuring a policy that sends a Change Summary report via Email whenever an Entuity device event occurs within 2 hours after a change has occurred on that device. To configure BMC Network Automation to receive events from Entuity, you must log on to BMC Network Automation and configure the IP address where Entuity is running as a syslog relay.

To configure BMC Network Automation to receive events from Entuity

  1. Open the Device Agents page by navigating to Admin > Device Agents.
  2. Edit the device agent that will be receiving syslog events from Entuity.
  3. Scroll down to Syslog Relays in the Syslog Listening section and enter the IP address on which Entuity is running.
  4. Click Save.

    Warning

    Note

    Even if Entuity is co-located with BMC Network Automation, the IP address of the local host still needs to be entered in this field (that is, 127.0.0.1).

  5. Continuing in BMC Network Automation, add an external filter that accepts the events sent from Entuity by doing the following:
    1. Open the External Events page by navigating to Admin > External Events.
    2. Click Add to add a new external event.
    3. Enter values as shown in the following figure, and click Save.
      The following example shows capturing all events from Entuity in a single Event Filter and categorizing them with Event Type: Received message with Major severity.
