Snapshot and backup checkpoints
The following table lists the checkpoints for you to take VM snapshots and database backups during the installation and post-installation process. Taking these backups and snapshots will help you to recover from a failed installation.
After you complete the installation successfully, you can delete all intermediate snapshots to ensure that your host has enough resources available for the other applications to run.
It is required to take snapshots before you begin the installation or before you begin upgrade.
In the table, "Before you begin the installation" or "Before you begin the upgrade" means that you should take database backups and VM snapshots after you prepare the target host and after all the prerequisites are met. For example, take snapshots for BMC AR System Server - Cloud Portal and Database, after the JDK is installed, and the OS user, database, and database users are created (as required by the product).
Important installation checkpoints
If you are installing multiple secondary instances of a product for a high-availability deployment, take snapshot or backups after installing each instance. After all the installations are complete and the environment is in a working state, you can take the final snapshots and backups of the servers and databases and delete the intermediate snapshots.
