Reprovisioning a VPC

This topic describes how to reprovision a Virtual Public Cloud (VPC) for Amazon Web Services (AWS). The topic contains the following sections:

Overview

The reprovisioning operation allows you to update a VPC structure by using a new revision of the network blueprint. This capability enables you to scale the container by adding new components, such as NICs, load balancer interfaces, and firewall interfaces. (You cannot delete components.)

For example, you might want to inject any of the following modifications to a VPC after it has been created:

  • Route tables
  • Subnets/Provisioning Networks/Public Cloud Network

    Note

Only subnets that do not use Network Address Translation (NAT) are supported for reprovisioned VPCs. If you want to add new subnets to an existing logical hosting environment, you must specify the appropriate network address/mask in the network blueprint.

  • Logical Address Pools
  • Gateways
  • Logical Perimeter Firewall
  • Logical Distributed Firewall
  • Logical connectors
  • Logical Load Balancers

    Note

Regardless of the load balancer and network connections in a network blueprint and that the respective blueprint is used to reprovision a logical hosting environment (LHE), all available server networks from the blueprint are associated to all the available load balancers.

If you do not want to load balance specific networks, clear the Server check box for each of those networks in the network blueprint.

To reprovision a VPC

  1. From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration Console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Network Designer.
  2. In the Network Designer, make any required changes to the network blueprint. For information about working with network blueprints, see Creating-and-managing-network-blueprints-using-the-Network-Designer.blueprints
  3. From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration Console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Resources.
  4. Under Quick Links on the left, click Network Containers under the General section.
  5. Select the network container you want to reprovision.
  6. Click the Reprovision Network Container icon reprovision_NC.gifto launch the Reprovision Network Container dialog.

The Reprovision Network Container dialog is displayed.

  7. Select the network blueprint version to which you want to reprovision the network container.

    Note

If you are reprovisioning an AWS logical hosting environment, you can ignore the Restricted Mode check box. It does not apply to AWS and has no effect.

  8. Click Reprovision.

Notes

  • While a network container is being reprovisioned, you cannot modify or delete it.
  • VMs on this network container cannot be provisioned or decommissioned during reprovisioning.
  • Reprovisioning a logical hosting environment (LHE) is not supported for onboarded virtual private clouds (VPCs).
